SELECTION METHOD FOR THE 1998 SLALOM CADET NATIONAL TEAM
The 1998 US Cadet National Team (for athletes 14 and younger) will be selected at the 1998 AAU Junior Olympics to be held in Richmond, VA on August 2nd. The top finishing 4 boats in each category at that event will be named to the National Team.
BENEFITS
Besides fame and glory, Cadet National Team Members will be invited to
special training camps hosted by the US Canoe & Kayak Team coaches.
Cadet National Team uniforms will be given to Team members immediately
after the AAU Junior Olympic awards ceremony in Richmond.
COMPETITION VENUE
The 1998 AAU Junior Olympics for Canoe/Kayak will be held on the James
River in Richmond, VA.

QUALIFICATION
To compete in the Individual Competition each competitor must qualify at
one of the AAU Junior Olympic Qualifiers listed below: Athletes may
compete in as many of these events as they would like.
April 11-12 | Red River Junior Olympic Qualifier, Arlington, TX |
April 18-19 | Kern River Festival and Qualifier, Kern River, Bakersfield, CA |
May 30 | Bethesda COE Qualifier, Potomac River, Bethesda, MD |
June 6-7 | Salmon la Sac Qualifier, Salmon la Sac River, Seattle, WA |
June 14 | Amoskeag Slalom and Qualifier, Merrimack River, Manchester, NH |
June 27 | Animas River Days and Qualifier, Animas River, Durango, CO |
June 27 | Snake River Whitewater Project Qualifier, Idaho Falls, ID |
July 12 | WACKO JO Qualifier, Wausau, WI |
July 18 | NRC JO Qualifier, Nantahala River, Bryson City, NC |
The following number of boats/athletes will be taken from each qualifier:
Men's Kayak | 4 boats/athletes per age group |
Women's Kayak | 3 boats/athletes per age group |
Men's Solo Canoe | 3 boats/athletes per age group |
Men's Tandem Canoe | 2 boats/4 athletes per age group |
